How to Make it Cozy

If there were only one word that could ever be used to describe my home, I would want it to be cozy. Who doesn't love anything cozy? We all want a cozy sweater, a cozy robe, cozy slippers, and cozy cup of coffee by a cozy fire. Why not a cozy home? It is achievable and it can be affordable. I paid so very little for that cozy bed you see above.

A good starting point to cozy up your home so to speak, is to clean and declutter. Nothing feels cozy and inviting when the space isn't clean and clear. I don't feel at home in my bedroom if there are clothes all over the floor. Clear it out and start from there. Then I like to add as much fabric and warmth as possible as you can see from the picture. The best way to make any space look and feel cozy is to add curtains, blankets and pillows. Curtains make a world of difference, in my opinion. They truly take a space from cold and blank to warm and inviting instantly (remember to hang them as close to the ceiling as possible for the best look). I used drop cloths from Home Depot here and in every room because... my word! Curtains are expensive especially because I find the standard length is never long enough. I love these drop cloth curtains. They get the job done and I love the way it looks. It fits my style perfectly. If your room needs something extra, I bet its curtains!

I can never get enough pillows and blankets in this house in any room, much less a bedroom. I have my reasons for this. Firstly, I think it looks better when adding more layers and textures to a bed. Think about those department store beds we all drool over. I walk into Pottery Barn and I just swoon over the bedding because they have the best made beds. I have 5 blankets on the bed pictured above... overkill? Maybe. But I love the look and feel. Also, I have many guests and I find it impossible to accommodate everyone's preferred sleeping temperature so I layer the beds -all of them. I have lighter blankets and heavier quilts on my beds to help my guests sleep more comfortably and cozy. Pillows are also a must. I try to make my bed to at least 1/3 pillows. Again, maybe its overkill but again, I blame Pottery Barn. Everyone wants to fall into a soft, warm, cozy bed with soft warm cozy pillows and blankets. I want beds in my home that people want to sleep in. I think lots of pillows and blankets help with that.

Rugs are also a great tool in your arsenal for getting a warm and cozy space. Every home needs rugs! Layering rugs is a really hot trend right now that I am loving and wanting to try somewhere around here.

I feel like I do not have enough rugs in my home, but I am trying to do better about picking things I really love and I haven't found the perfect ones yet.

These are the things that I think go the extra mile in my home. I think they add something special to any room and make it feel more cozy, comfortable, and inviting. I think it makes home feel more "home". If your home is a blank canvas, then these things I mentioned are great artistic tools to help you create something you love and somewhere you and everyone else always want to be.
